Wessex Premier side Cowes Sports, along with Division 1 Newport and East Cowes Vics, all lost on their travels to North Island opposition this afternoon (Saturday). The Yachtsmen journeyed to 2nd-placed Stoneham for their penultimate game of the season, losing to the only goal of the game. After some early pressure from Cowes, the Purples took the lead in the 34th minute (1-0) through Oliver Jenkins, although the Island side claimed the goal should have been disallowed for a foul on Ollie West. The home side struck the crossbar with a header 5 minutes before the half time break. In the 2nd half, George Carter-Knight and Will Bridi caused problems for the Stoneham defence without finding an equalising goal. The game was notable for 2 players making their 1st appearances for the Cowes senior side when they came on as 2nd half substitutes: Aaron Harlow and Ollie Holden. Vics travelled to the BJM stadium to face top club Hamworthy Recreation – who have gone unbeaten throughout the entire season to date – and lost by a 2-goal margin. Hamworthy took the lead through a magnificently taken free kick 9th minute free kick from George Deem (1-0). A 25-yard thunderbolt from Tom Cooper (2-0) resulted in Vics going into the half time break trailing by 2 goals. In the 2nd half, a through ball from substitute Sam Kirby found Josh Neale in the 64th minute, who lobbed Hamworthy keeper Fredericks to reduce the deficit to a single goal (2-1). Vics pushed for an equaliser but were caught on the counter in the 82nd minute, when a cool finish from substitute Alfie Matthews (3-1) ensured Hamworthy secured the Division 1 Championship and Vics returned to the Island pointless. Newport conceded 7 goals to bottom club AFC Aldermaston in Berkshire. Port went into the half time interval trailing by 4 goals. The Island side appeared the livelier in the opening exchanges with Jordan Browne striking the crossbar. Simeon Weekes put the Atom Men into the lead in the 13th minute (1-0), with Ryan Alexander scoring the 2nd goal for the home side in the 18th (2-0).
