The Big Blues Party with Laurie McVay and the High Rollers is now an established event in Sandown and the popularity for the event continues, with the blues night returning to Flanagans later this month.
Fabulous music, food and cocktails with a blues theme are all on the menu for the free event at the Pier Street bar, which takes place on 8th October at 20:00. Due to the show’s popularity, book early on 01983 408851 to avoid disappointment.
Meanwhile in Ventnor, The Ventnor Arts Club will host a special event on 15th November, when Laurie McVay performs songs from the ‘American jazz, soul and blues songbook’.
Jazz has been reshaped lately by singers like Gregory Porter and Mario Biondi – stylists who blend jazz with a touch of soul and blues. At the VAC, Laurie will take a similar approach to the songs of Burt Bacharach, Alan Jay Lerner, Stevie Wonder, Grover Washington, Billie Holiday and many others.
Laurie will be accompanied on the 15th by the virtuoso pianist, Alan Nicholls and supreme jazz bassist, Pete Holder – the Giant Steps Duo.
Doors will open for this event at 20:00. Entry is free for club members and just £4 for non members.
