Vandals in Ventnor have left local residents angered after 2 benches were carried up the Cascades and tossed over the railings.
Members of the town’s Wombles Beach Cleaning team made the discovery this morning (Thursday).
The benches come from nearby fish and chip shop Besty and Spinky’s, who are now said to be arranging recovery of the benches.
One local said:
“This makes me so angry. At times like this, why are people still being so nasty?”
I have never known so much scum on the Island. What has happened to our fantastic way of life.

I can’t help thinking it’s all being shipped over here ron, and that’s why the council want to keep building houses all over the place to put them in. Who knows, they might even be getting paid by the mainland councils to take them here. What ever it is something going on why there is so much of it here all of a sudden like you say
At one of the Pennyfeathers meetings I went to your thinking is right. When asked about the housing and people on the Isle of Wight people on a housing list getting the priority of the houses the answer was no because of the amount of people who are coming over from the Birmingham City overflow. I doubt Birmingham will be sending us their decent residents.
People from the mainland cannot register on the social housing list unless they have been here 5 years or can prove a local connection. Even then the wait for social housing can be years. I don’t know what a Pennyfeather meeting is? but it would be nice if they had some factual information. We do not take overflow people from Birmingham and put them in social housing because there quite simply is not enough social housing to go round. Its that sort of misinformation that creates bitterness and discrimination
Been here all my life & there were always pockets of idiots & most were Island born & bred. The Island isn’t some magical retirement home it is a community with all the good & bad of any other community. The funny thing is I remember as a young child my gran saying the same sentiments as your comment. I expect Islanders have been blaming mainlanders for their troubles since the Christians wiped out the druids.

Poisonous tongues will have friends round all the time to share their poison, total disregard to distancing, so they can wag away …some waiting to return to work as a diversion… anything but stay in with your own tongue …..and when things go back to so called normal those tongues are still restless just hidden in the malady of life spreading the restlessness where ever they go..so contamination will still go on from poisonous tongues even if it is not the coronavirus that is being spread..

I bet a workman who’s lost his home through no fault of his own wouldn’t get put into free accommodation with free money.

It makes me laugh when islanders say things about people coming over and ruining the place. I’ve met some scummy people who are islanders going back generations and the people who are causing this kind of damage are probably kids of those kinds of people. The island needs new blood to thin out the festering scabs that are dotted all over the island!

My comment was aimed at the troublesome families who have been moved all over the mainland therefore none of the council’s are willing to house them, only this council here on the island because they are given vast amounts of money to take them. I bet these families do not get housed anywhere near where the councillors reside! They then become a police problem and anyone who happens to live in close proximity to them. Of course IOW born and bred have troublesome families, all areas no matter where you live do.

The IOW council probably taking the troublesome, skanky families for a price. These skanks have been moved around on the mainland from place to place until they have nowhere else left to go, then the IOW council take them for a healthy price. This has got to be the case because all of a sudden, crime here on the island in the last year or so has increased dramatically and it can’t be from ‘home grown born and bred’ scum of the earth. IOW council, we don’t want these low life, trouble makers here on our beautiful island, don’t bring anymore here. Enough is enough.

Perhaps we should pay their parents even MORE tax credits and child allowance, and cut their council tax, and give them a rent holiday for even longer, then perhaps their vile, useless state kept children would be grateful…………..wouldn’t they?
See this low life for what it is, end child tax credits, make people work a full week IF they want children, and if you can’t afford them, likely you can’t bring them up correctly, as one can be sure it will be the charity kept ones doing such vile acts.
Some of the responses to this act are far more vile than the act itself. People reading these comments must think Islanders are stuck up scum.
Not so long ago, if a man said at work to a mate, ‘ Wife is pregnant’ workmates would say ‘Better do a bit more overtime then’.
NOW the opposite is true, and so long as the ‘parent’ or rarely parents are doing 20 hours per week, they get all their low wage made up via tax credits, along with subsidised rent and council tax. Add child allowance at £20 per week, free NHS dental treatment and prescriptions, free school dinners, and free bus travel to school for some, and the ‘having a child business’ becomes quite lucrative compared to working on a low wage Island.
Then as summers come and go, those claiming such, doing minimum hours 16 for a single parent, 20 for the ‘rarely’ declared couple working, they can spend more time enjoying life without the hassle, the stress that real full time working parents find themselves struggling to achieve.
The can shop in the week, go for a meal mid week, spend time on the beach other than the weekend when it is more crowded, and STILL be financially better off than many many other full time workers on the Islands low paid wage economy.
That is why we have so many unwanted children who are allowed to run feral, as it is the ‘lifestyle’ rather than ‘wanting’ children that then gives the ‘parent’ (s) the reason to keep reproducing ever more in a growing number of cases here.
Tax credits should be stopped and instead wages should be funding workers once more, so there is encouragement to do more hours NOT less as it is now.
Many who work the minimum hours then take cash paid jobs in seaside cafe’s etc to earn even more, whilst still gaining from all the subsidised rent and council tax.
Amazing how even the ‘sick’ can often work, when getting disability benefits, so long as it is ‘cash in hand’ being paid out, by those who ought to know better too.
All the time we are funding those who don’t really want children but know they will be better off gaining a house, and financial incentive to never leave the womb empty, then we will get a larger, ever growing proportion of vandals, criminals in the making of these ‘unwanted’ beings on our streets.
I know not all are such, but open your eyes, for the numbers are growing ever worse.

Any homeless people been put into any of the Ventnor hotels? There were some in Sandown hotels, and they caused trouble. Just a thought.
Can’t always blame people not born here. We’ve lived here 14 yrs and love the island and way of life, that’s why we moved here and want to protect it because we know what it’s like on the mainland . Many born here don’t realise what they have here they think it’s boring ,maybe they should spend few months in a city they’d be begging to come back ,then might start to appreciate the I.O.W. !
Steralise the under classes to stop them breeding more scum .
