PICTURE GALLERY: The sun continued to shine throughout the weekend for The Chale Show, which saw thousands of visitors descend on the annual event which has once again been hailed a great success.
Over 1500 exhibits were present for the traditional horticultural show including flowers, vegetables and crafts, alongside a packed weekend of entertainment, traction engine displays, fairground rides and produce.
One highlight of this year’s event was the The Adrenaline Tour staring ex-world championship motocross rider, Jason Smyth. Wowing the crowds, Jason demonstrated his impressive riding skills on both two wheels and four, jumping over 50ft in the air on a stunt quadbike.
Medina Marching Band joined forces with the Vectis Corps of Drums to perform in the main arena, inviting hundreds of children to join them in marching whilst the band played all the classic pieces, pleasing the spectators, mums and dads who had gathered around.
Throughout the showground, held just outside of Chale on Military Road, was a display of Island vintage tractors, steam & military vehicles; a local farmer’s market; children’s creative activity and circus skills area; community kids running races and professional Street entertainers, jugglers and circus performances.
Youngsters were also given the chance to shine at the show thanks to the Chale Horticultural Society, who invited schools to enter produce grown throughout the year in each school’s allotments.
Sandown Bay Academy’s Year 10 and 11 BTEC Land, Animal and Environment students won a gold certificate, a ribbon for best in show for secondary schools, along with £50 prize money with an extra £100 for entering. All the money will be spent setting up the new site in West Block.
Raising money for the Island’s Earl Mountbatten Hospice, The Sunflower live stage showcased a wide variety of the Island’s best bands and musicians over the weekend, with fundraisers shaking money boxes and selling sunflowers.
Throughout the weekend the main arena included a falconry display, Dingle Fingle ‘Clowning Around’ act and local magician David Randini.
