Sandown Town Council is working with local councillors to agree on full consultation and communication regarding proposals for the future of Dinosaur Isle.
As part of the on-going development of Sandown, it is known that the Isle of Wight Council is seeking to partner with external companies to redevelop Dinosaur Isle into an enhanced attraction.
Although the plans seem to be under tight wraps, it is rumoured that 2 options are being considered; Hampshire-based Winchester Science Centre or the German company behind Dinosaurier-Park Münchehagen and Dino Parque Lourinhã in Portugal.
Town Mayor Gary Young said:
“We have written to the Regeneration Team, highlighting the interest of stakeholders and the need for any development to balance the needs of tourism, which has been prioritised in recent consultations and the wider community”.
Councillors Debbie Andre, Paul Brading and Ian Ward all spoke at the Town Council meeting on 24th February, highlighting their commitment to ensuring residents would have the opportunity to be fully involved in the process. They also supported residents demands to secure inward investment for the Town, citing the improvements in Sandham Gardens as an example of working in partnership with major companies.
Deputy Mayor Paul Brading added:
“The Town and County Council recognise the need to listen to the views of local residents, and we have asked for a future meeting of the Cabinet to be held in Sandown to enable as much engagement as is possible, given the commercial sensitivities of this type of initiative”.
Mayor Young concluded:
“The Town have pressed for investment for years, investment that enriches the assets and public realm, as well as providing much needed employment for local people, as well as stimulates the economy of the Town”.
