A Thea Broadhead Hat trick helped Shanklin put 6 past Gosport Borough ladies in the Invitation Cup on Sunday (3rd November) at the County Ground.
After a strong start by Shanklin, Gosport broke away and scored the opening goal within the 1st 10 minutes (0-1).
Shanklin then switched into top gear after trailing, and Rosie Willis scored Shanklin’s first with a perfectly timed lob over the keeper with only 15 minutes played (1-1).
The second soon followed in the 30th minute with a nicely slotted bottom corner finish from Thea Broadhead, assisted by Gemma Woodford through ball (2-1).
Shanklin then quickly scored their 3rd 3 mins later by Danni Melninkaite finishing off a lovely passage of football by the Shanklin midfield, with Gemma Woodford getting her 2nd assist (3-1).
As the half came to an end, Gosport then scored their second after a cross into the box left a player free at the back to slot the ball into the net (3-2).

The 2nd half started, and – after another great display of football – Gemma got her hat trick of assists by setting up Thea again for her 2nd goal: a powerful shot that proved too much for their keeper (4-2).
Gosport were constantly putting pressure on the Shanklin side, but with possession well in Shanklin’s favour but some great performances from the Shanklin players kept Gosport quiet for most of the 2nd half.
Shanklin’s 5th was scored by Holly Stephan – a calm slotted finish after a loose ball was bouncing around the 6-yard box (5-2).
Gosport didn’t give up and scored their 3rd after continued pressure from their forwards (5-3).
Gosport never gave up and continued to try to find a way back in the game, but Shanklin’s defence proved too strong.
The game was put to bed after Thea Broadhead got her hat trick – assisted by Dani – the pick of the bunch with a bottom corner curved shot from the edge of the box.

The win sees Shanklin through to the next round against Wight Eagles at home in November.
