In 2014 Robert Robinson staged his first charity event ‘The Gala’ in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and, due to its success, it’s back this weekend on the 1st & 2nd August at Medina Theatre, Newport.
Last year’s event was a brilliant success, exposing the Island to world-class dancers from some of the world’s most reputable ballet companies performing a mixture of classical and contemporary pieces. With a new line up of dancers from Hamburg, Stuttgart and The Royal Ballet, this years event is also one not to be missed.
Robert Robinson was born on the Island. He started ballet classes at the age of 5 with the Gillian Cartwright School of Dance in Shanklin. His training continued with the Royal Ballet School Associates, Elmhurst School of Dance (Birmingham) and finally the John Cranko School (Stuttgart). In 2011 Robert joined the Stuttgart Ballet Company as an Apprentice moving in to the Corp de Ballet in 2012. In 2013 Robert was promoted to Demi Soloist.
The Gala is a charity cultural event of high calibre with a diverse repertoire performed by an acclaimed and international group of dancers. The project seeks to bring the most exciting developments in dance from the European stage to the Island at Medina theatre whilst also raising funds for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
With the success of last years Gala, £4427.10 was donated to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, a figure that Robert and The Gala team hope to surpass this year.
