Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat, an organisation made up of volunteers who drop everything at a moments notice to save lives at sea, has been made an Honorary Associate of the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK).

A special ceremony was held at the awe- inspiring Worcester Cathedral on Saturday (13th October), where many of the RLSS UK’s thousands of volunteers were recognised for the outstanding contribution they make to help to keep people safe in, on and near water.

SSILB was made an Royal Life Saving Society UK Honorary Associate at the ceremony for its significant contribution to the work of the Society.

The award was presented by RLSS Patron Lord Mike Storey CBE to Mark Birch, Operations Manager of Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.

As previously reported, Ryde Inshore Rescue have also been made an Honorary Associate. It has since emerged that Freshwater Independent Lifeboat have also been bestowed the award.
