Around 120 swimmers are preparing to compete in the 66th Pier to Pier Race from Sandown Pier to the site of the old Shanklin Pier on Saturday 11th August.

This year’s event will start at 12 Noon from alongside Sandown Pier and will see the competitors travel across the bay to end up on the beach outside Shanklin and Sandown Rowing Club.

The Shanklin & Sandown Rowing Club offer their clubhouse and also provide hot soup and rolls for the swimmers at the end. Spectators are welcome at both ends.

The swimmers will finish at Shanklin at around 12:30 to 13:00.

Swimmers are supported by the safety boats and the Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat, Ryde Inshore Rescue and members of the Shanklin Deep Sea Fishermen and their boats. However, the IOW Marlins Masters Swim Club are requesting more kayakers/canoeists to act as the first line of safety for the swimmers.

If you are available then contact Adrian Brown on [email protected] or call Bob Cooper on 07846438909 for full details.
