UPDATED: Early risers hoping to get in their morning swim have been left disappointed this morning (Monday) after arriving at Medina Leisure Centre – now known as 1Leisure Medina – to find the swimming pool completely empty.
Islanders are being turned away at the doors of the Newport facility due to the huge pool having lost all of its water, despite being full last night. Staff arrived first thing to discover the baffling situation.
Investigations are now underway as to why the pool has self-drained and what damage, if any, has been sustained by the rapid emptying.
It’s hoped that the pool will re-open to swimmers tomorrow.
UPDATE @ 11:30 – A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has said:
“There was a pool plant failure at 1Leisure Medina last night (Sunday), which is currently being investigated.
“The main pool is being refilled and the water will need to be treated and heated. It is anticipated that the pool will open again on Wednesday morning.
“Apologies for any inconvenience. The small pool remains unaffected”.
