Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club had a total of 4 crews competing at Newport Regatta on Saturday, with the ever improving Men’s Novice Four of Kevin Faithfull, Sam Evans-Murray, Thomas Ashley, Andrew Tapsell and Daisy Faithfull coming agonisingly close to securing their first win.

The Novice crew matched BTC stroke for stroke but in the end just missed out by a canvas. It was a similar story for the Novice Ladies Four of Scarlett Phelan, Zoe Bushby, Kayleigh Batchelor, Rachael Debenham and Yasmin Wright who also secured the runners up spot.

The Masters 50 crew of Andrew Tapsell, Paul Gamble, Gary Burch, Garry Walters and Lottie Tapsell finished third with their best performance to date.

The club’s Juniors then travelled up to Reading to compete at Thames Valley Park Regatta on Sunday.

The event, raced over a 500m course, saw Ethan Walters and Riley Horrix secure another victory by winning the J15 Double Sculls. Kayleigh Batchelor also continued her recent good form by winning the J14 Single Sculls, this after finishing second in a composite J14 Double Sculls crew with Florence Neller of Itchen Imperial.

The J16 Double of Rachael Debenham and Yasmin Wright again showed great promise, just missing out on a place in the final by half a length.

Lottie Tapsell also put in another good performance in the Single Scull but also narrowly missed out on a final position.
