The NHS is looking to improve wheelchair services on the Isle of Wight – and there is still time for service users to help the Clinical Commissioning Group to do that.
Dozens of wheelchair users have already submitted their views about how the service works now, and how they would like it to work in future, but the NHS hopes to hear from many more people before the deadline of Friday 7th June.
Questions relate to issues such as the hours of opening, waiting times, service location,, and whether people would use digital methods to contact the service. The process is being led by NHS Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
All of the views submitted by people who use the local NHS wheelchair service will be considered, before decisions are made about awarding a new contract to a provider, taking effect from April 2021.
Dr Michele Legg, clinical chair for the CCG, said:
“For someone who relies on a wheelchair, it is utterly essential that the support they get from the NHS is timely, and effective. We are keen to explore any possibility for improving care, and that means hearing from the people who use local wheelchair services – they have the most important insight into what does, and doesn’t, work and that experience is invaluable to us as we consider how we could make positive changes.”
There are a range of methods which have been set up to allow people to submit their views:
