The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is hosting a very special visitor at its forthcoming gala weekend.
‘Terrier’ locomotive Fenchurch is visiting from the Bluebell Railway, and will be in action throughout the weekend. Built in 1872, this 150-year-old engine is a firm favourite with visitors and enthusiasts.
The locomotive arrived by low-loader on Tuesday 20th June, having crossed the Solent aboard Wightlink’s St Clare. Staff at the Steam Railway have been busy with checks and test runs, prior to hauling passenger trains on Friday.
The Railway’s gala weekend sees an action-packed programme with three Victorian steam-locomotives running. Fenchurch will be joined by resident locos W24 Calbourne and W11 Newport.
General Manager, Steve Backhouse, has said
“We’re delighted to welcome Fenchurch to this special weekend.
“These vintage ‘Terrier’ locomotives are always very popular, and the sight of three Victorian engines running together will be quite a spectacle. We’re very grateful to the Bluebell Railway for their support in making this happen.”
The Railway’s gala weekend takes place on Fri 23rd, Sat 24th and Sun 25th June. Tickets are available on the Railway’s website, or on the day.
