Local Education Union boss Peter Shreeve has claimed that 40 out of the Isle of Wight’s 45 schools will face real-term cuts from April of next year. Mr Shreeve further claims that schools will experience an average cut of £158 per pupil. Last week, the education unions NEU, ASCL and NAHT – supported by Parentkind – launched the updated School Cuts website showing the impact of Government funding decisions on every mainstream school in England. Nationally, 92% of mainstream schools face real-terms cuts from April. Peter Shreeve – Assistant District Secretary of the National Education Union – has said:
“We know Island schools remain concerned over funding. This was clear in last week’s Island Schools forum meeting. “Regrettably, years of underfunding are still impacting negatively on learners. Calculations show 40 Islands schools out of 45 face cuts in 2024. “Schools will experience an average £158 cut per pupil. Thus, the amount needed to restore per pupil funding in real terms to its 2023-24 level will be an extra £2.4 million. “Estimated secondary cuts per pupil are as high as £218. This equates to £295,674 in Ryde Academy. “Primary schools being smaller are hit even harder. The highest per pupil cut in real terms is an estimated £329’ which equates to a whole school cut of £32,287 in St. Helen’s Primary. “Despite having slightly lower per pupil cuts, the overall school cuts in Gurnard and Lanesend are even greater, with estimated cuts of £119,100 to Gurnard and £126,380 to Lanesend.”

So, just as I and others said yesterday on here, the money is wasted on these SEN children, whose parents get extra money for producing such, and all our schools have to have costly alterations to allow such by choice to send their SEN’s to a normal school, which then impacts on those children’s futures who do have hope of learning, by cut backs BECAUSE so much money is wasted on dead wood.
Cut backs should impact the most useless in society first, not keep them ring fenced imo.

Huge amounts of cash are spent and much wasted on trying to educate those who will never need more than the basic needs.
When special schools dealt with these children, then costs were manageable, now we have to have paid extra ‘helpers’ to coax, control and attempt to keep these, what are oft disruptive children from ruining the learning of normal children.
There were sound reasons why special schools for physically or mentally impaired children were created, as there were asylums created to house adults who can’t control themselves.
Allowed it? They actively encourage content like this.

the previous, perfectly good system of sending kids with SEN to separate schools worked perfectly well, as they were never, ever going to be full, productive, tax paying members of the adult workforce. This system ensured that all the other kids, got the education they needed, had the resources available and the teachers were not disproportionately spending time on the SEN kids, at the expense of the gifted children, who are at the higher end of the scale.

As our country is filled daily with legal arrivals along with endless illegals, of whom most of their numerous children will require expensive translators and helpers in the classrooms, let alone paying their parents extra if SEN, then of course the educational budget then has to be slashed for OUR children.
Being ‘nice’ to all is a luxury that the UK working people can no longer afford.
So, we should be ending all arrivals UNLESS they can fully fund their housing, their often huge families FULLY without taking benefits, tax credits, cheap rent and council tax and special educational needs, because WE all have to pay for it, NOT the Government, but us, and OUR children suffer in the process.

The ne’re do wells are an expensive luxury we all should now be questioning the wisdom of paying the whole family just for producing such for the UK to fund, likely for it’s entire lifetime.
Years ago these people were employed in simple tasks like throwing stones at Rooks & Pidgeon to prevent them eating the crops.
The parents of such would have to work harder, not less hours, or not at all, to fund its existence.
Now the families of the disabled get more benefits than those who are fully active, yet then get perks for free as well.
Surely the parents should take some responsibility as those who do drugs or drunken whilst pregnant have inflicted some of these disabilities themselves

Instead of wasting this new funding from the government on cyclists, spend it on our schools so that Islanders can benefit from it.
Dont spend so much on woke garbage, inflated pay and other non educational drivel and focus on teaching the kids how to read, write and maths.

Oh no, thats less board markers, and rhey wont be able to update their maths textbooks to new mathematics, oh no, schools are probably the best place to cut funding, from my view, the main bottleneck in education isnt sue to funding, its because pupils don’t want to pay attention. They could vastly improve education by implementing a no phones policy.
Clearly, the local population is in decline and it is fortunate that we have people happy to come to this country to work hard to pay for the pensions of the elderly and for the benefits of lazy slackers, as well as to provide care to our weak and sickly population. Within a generation or two, the locals will have disappeared and been replaced by the children of immigrants. However, dwindling birth rates mean that the benefits culture will be eliminated in the future and all will have to work. The future will be very different.
Before we condemn a section of society as being non productive you need to understand a little of what SEN means, it can mean making allownaces for a wheelchair or disabed child, those that cannot read or write to those who as some have mentioned are so feral that they need keeping in secure units for the benefit and protection of others.Schools get extra funding for attracting SEN pupils so they are not going to complain, if you remove the additional benefits available to parents for those who are pushed into SEN I guaranteee overnight the amount of pupils so identified would fall through the floor.

not one child is born with the ability to read or write – that is what school is for – to teach it to them. That has nothing to do with SEN. Having a wheelchair is not a special educational need – it is a mobility aid and has no bearing on the childs ability to learn.
we are talking about the clearly defined category of children, who have absolutely no hope whatsoever of leading an independent life, that contributes to the continuation of society. These are the kids that should be at separate schools, which doesn’t deprive the rest of societies children of the resources they deserve.
School funding cuts for 2024, but watch the council tax get hiked yet again so they can waste it on their own white elephant projects. There won’t be bugger all of it used for what is needed for those paying it.
Obviously, these cuts are needed but they won’t make much difference because it is well known that academic standards on the island are the lowest in the country. It doesn’t matter how much money you throw at the local children because they are generally too lacking in intelligence to be educated beyond a very basic level. However, their educational level is sufficient to run the dodgems, wait tables, and flip burgers, which is the future of the vast majority.

Now it makes sense. Our MP stood and made a speech in the commons blaming the local council for the cuts. All along it has been deep and damaging cuts year on year made by his government. Shame on you. Stand up for the council and demand change.
