Several Island businesses will once again be at the show. It will be in its usual setting of Mayflower Park and the surrounding shoreline, which is a few metres from the Red Funnel terminals. Especially for Island Residents, Red Funnel have discounted ferry fares to enable them to visit the show. A booklet containing a voucher is due to be delivered to Island homes over the coming days.
With its nautical connections, the Island’s Mermaid Gin will be offered to guests on some stands with several companies choosing the Mermaid brand as their preferred Gin for their customers. There will also be a Gin and Rum Bar, Champagne and seafood bar and Quarterdeck Dining for visitors to explore.
As previously reported by Island Echo in June, East Cowes Marina is now part of Dean & Reddyhoff/Quay Marinas. This combined business will operate the second largest number of coastal marinas (11) with the widest network around the coast of the UK. This new business offers visitors and berth holders access to the stunning boating destinations including East Cowes/Cowes.
Sunsail, one of the supporters of Cowes Week will have their usual stand where information on sailing holidays/destinations can be had. During Cowes Week there was a promotion for Grenada.
One of the main attractions will be the frigate ‘Shtandart’ is a full-size replica of a ‘Man’o’War’ which was the flagship of the first Russian Baltic fleet. Construction of the original was personally directed by Peter the Great following his lengthy visits to Britain over several years where he studied the building of warships at the Royal Dockyards. The original Shtandart was launched in 1703. This replica was built in St-Petersburg and launched in 1999 and was built from the plans used for the original. Visit Shtandart at berth M635.
This year’s show is the 51st in Southampton and will once again showcase everything you need to enjoy time in, on or around water. See 500+ marine brands spread across the land and purpose-built marina. There will be show favourites, including the Sunseeker range, as well as new exhibitors and attractions.
Gypsy Moth will be on show as will Pip Hare and her boat Superbigou. Pip was recently in Cowes for the start of the Rolex Fastnet Race which she used as one of her warm-up races for next year’s endeavours. Next year she will be taking her place on the start line of the Vendee Globe Race with the intention of becoming the 10th British sailor and the 8th woman ever to compete in this epic non-stop, solo race around the World.
There will be the chance to try a dive, watersports and radio-controlled yachts at the Radio Sailing Pool plus Try a Boat and Ocean Scene’s mini cruise around Southampton Water.
