Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club’s Carter Horrix and Louis Sheasby travelled to Reading to compete in the Thames Valley Park Sprint Regatta at the weekend (17th/18th June).
The crew were using the event as a sharpening-up exercise in readiness for next month’s British Junior championships.
The racing was over 500m with the crew contesting the J15 double sculls in the morning session and, having secured a comfortable semi-final win they repeated the feat in the final, setting the fastest time of the day for a double at the event.
The boys then raced in single sculls for the afternoon session, with Carter progressing through to the final in a close semi-final, however, a shipwreck off the start in the final left him with a lot to make up and he finished 3rd.
Louis had a good row in his semi-final but lost out by the closest of margins to the eventual winner from Christchurch.
