Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club crews travelled to Nottingham last weekend to represent the Wessex region at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta.
The club’s J15 double scull of Carter Horrix and Louis Sheasby secured the top spot on the podium – the region’s only medalists – with a superb row leading from the front in the final.
The crew had set the fastest time in the heats and took the race to their closest challengers in the final to win by 3 lengths.
This was the crew’s 2nd successive gold at these championships after winning at J14 status last year.
Beth Katirewa was part of a composite crew with Coalporters Rowing Club from Southampton that secured the win in the B final of the Girls’ J16 coxless quad event whilst the club’s J14 girls quad rowed well and would have gained valuable experience of this type of racing, competing at a multi-lane event for the 1st time.
