Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club travelled the short distance to Southampton last weekend for the season-ending South Coast Championships.
The club had entered 11 crews, with the Men’s Junior four of Arlo Adds, Carter Horrix, Louis Sheasby, Fred Giemza-Pipe and Esme Walters (cox) competing in the championship event as Hants & Dorset title winners.
The crew got off to an excellent start and quickly opened up a 2-length lead, from which they were never challenged and went on to win in fine style.
The recently formed Novice Ladies crew of Freya Jones, Theodora Travers, Hayley Owen, Evie Selway and Jane Denby-Roach (cox) secured a place in the final where they finished in 3rd spot.
The challenging conditions saw the club’s Men’s & Ladies Masters finish 5th in their respective finals, whilst the Junior Ladies four also had a 5th-place finish in their heat.
The Junior quad regatta saw victory for the girls J14 crew of Poppy Lawrence, Annabelle Steward, Rose Collier and Layla Katirewa, with their boys’ counterparts of James Travers, Sam Meadowcroft, Josh Batchelor, Digby Ridgewell and Paul Gamble (cox) also taking top spot on the podium with an excellent row in difficult conditions.
The boys J16 quad of Tobin Green, Issac King, Horrix and Sheasby finished in 2nd place, and the club boated 2 girls J16 quads, finishing in 5th and 6th respectively, whilst the club’s 2nd girls J14 boat finished 4th.
The results in the Junior regatta ensured that the club took home the aggregate cup for the most successful club at the Junior regatta for the 3rd year in succession.
