Shanklin & Sandown Rowing Club held their annual pre-season training camps with the junior squad returning to Dorney Lake – home of the 2012 Olympics rowing regatta – and a 2nd camp courtesy of the Folly Inn on the river Medina in readiness for the new Hants & Dorset season.
The Juniors enjoyed a 3-day camp, with some crews experiencing a multi-lane venue for the 1st time, as they prepare for the upcoming Junior Inter-regional regatta at the end of April.
The rowers also got to row in an Octuple and an eight, again for the 1st time, and they also benefitted from the guest coaches present, including those based at Eton Dorney and Island-born Matt Evans from Ryde.
The club will have 7 juniors representing the Wessex region at the inter-regional event across 5 boat classes.
The Island-based camp allowed rowers the opportunity to try out different boat types and combinations, as well as having outings in their regular crews in near-perfect conditions in preparation for the upcoming season which begins at Milford on Sea.
