Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club had representation at a national level, with 2 crews competing at last month’s National Schools Regatta – the biggest junior regatta in the country.
Fred Giemza-Pipe, in only his 2nd competitive outing in the single scull, finished 3rd in the C final and 18th overall, a remarkable achievement, considering his relative inexperience in this discipline.
Carter Horrix and Louis Sheasby, competing up an age group in the J16 double scull, also exceeded expectations finishing in 5th place in the A final.
The boys, who produced the 7th fastest time in their initial time trial, were in the leading pack for the first 500m, and sculled fearlessly to keep in touch with the crews in the medal positions. Leading the chasing pack to the line, they pushed on relentlessly to finish in a remarkable 5th position overall.
