Shanklin Sailing Club is holding an open day on Saturday 13th May and is welcoming Islanders along to Little Hope Beach at Shanklin to try out sailing on a Sprint 15 catamaran or a Laser Pico dinghy.
Those wanting to experience the water will be taken out with experienced sailors and offered to do as much of the sailing as they want – or to just enjoy the ride. No experience is necessary and there is no charge. The club has plenty of buoyancy aids, spray jackets and a small number of wet suits they can lend out.
As well as the on water sailing between 09:30 – 13:00, there will be a barbecue at the sailing club.
The next day (Sunday 14th May) a race for newcomers will be held at 09:30. Again, there is no charge, no experience is necessary and you will be taken out with experienced sailors on their own boats. You can steer the boat or just pull the ropes. There will be various prizes.
