Shanklin Ladies were knocked out of the Women’s FA Cup at the 2nd round stage by AFC Stoneham Ladies from the Southern Football League on Sunday (22nd September).
Unfortunately, AFC Stoneham started quicker and went ahead with a nicely worked early goal from Emma Simpson.
Shanklin settled down and got back into the game but just couldn’t get that needed goal. The Purples pressed again and scored 2 more before half time from Mia Flood and in the 14th minute, before Emma Simpson bagged her brace in the 37th.
Half time: Shanklin 0-3 AFC Stoneham

Shanklin came out strong in the 2nd half, dominating possession and had the better chances but again couldn’t find the net. Stoneham then scored 2 more goals – with Mia Flood bagging her brace in the 72nd minute – but Shanklin still continued to play the better football.
As the 2nd half ended, Shanklin scored a well worked goal, starting from Abbey Brown winning the ball in midfield, laying it off to Holly, who put a through ball through to Daniela Melninkaite, who went on to score her first goal in senior football.
Full time: Shanklin Ladies 1-5 AFC Stoneham
After the game, Shanklin FC said:
“Although a defeat, a lot of positives to take from the game and an all round good performance.”
This Sunday (29th September), Shanklin Ladies travel to Varsity Women Reserves for a cup fixture.
