Shanklin Ladies travelled to Division 3 side AFC Varsity Reserves in the Hampshire Invitation Cup on Sunday (29th September), scoring 19 goals without reply.
Shanklin went about their business in a ruthless and clinical fashion with a double hat trick from Gemma Woodford and further hat tricks for both youngsters Dani Melninkaite and Tilly Yardley.
Gemma Woodford got Shanklin’s 1st goal early on which then opened the floodgates. A very well set out Shanklin side saw no fear against AFC Varsity as they went on to to score a further 9 in the first half with 3 more from Gemma Woodford, Thea Broadhead (2).
Dani Melninkaite dribbled past one and another of Varsity’s defence, to place a well worked goal top corner and went on to complete her hat trick.
It was then Tilly Yardley’s turn to complete her hat trick which saw her powerful strikes hit the back of the net further converted by a penalty.
This was both Tilly’s and Dani’s 1st hat tricks in senior football.

The 2nd half started with Shanklin continuing to dominate possession, hitting the bar and post on numerous occasions. but the continuous pressure from led to Shanklin adding a further 9 goals.
Faith Wagstaff scored her 1st of the season shortly followed by her 2nd before being elbowed in the face in a 50/50 challenge but fortunately she was able to carry on.
A mistimed pass back to the goalkeeper from Jazz Bavington led to a shot from AFC Varsity which was fired well past the post. This was AFC Varsity’s only real chance during the game after a well worked defence throughout kept Varsity at bay.
Gemma Woodford fired in 2 more well worked goals as did Dani Melninkaite and Rosie Willis.
Freya Henry scored her 1st goal of the season with a shot from 30 yards out, clipping the crossbar and going in past the goalkeeper.
Holly Stephan dispatched a long distance shot from 30 yards to put her name on the scoresheet.
