Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat launched into rough seas at 11:07 yesterday (Wednesday) in response to a report of a wrecked vessel on a south coast beach.
The ‘Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer)’ lifeboat was tasked to Barton-on-Sea to search 2 separate areas off the coast for potential casualties in the water.
The volunteer RNLI crew members joined Police, a local Coastguard Rescue Team and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter in the search but nothing was found.
With a 3-4 metre swell and 30 knot wind, the second search in the shallow waters off Barton on Sea had to be abandoned due to the difficult conditions.
It has been confirmed that Hampshire Constabulary have arrested an individual on suspicion of stealing the vessel.
Yarmouth Lifeboat and her crew arrived safely back in Yarmouth at 13:20.
