The intimate surrounds of Medina Bookshop in Cowes will play host to acclaimed Scottish musician Alasdair Roberts next Saturday (8th April).
Following 2 sell-out shows in London this month, the Glasgow-based singer and guitarist is touring the UK in support of his new solo album Grief in the Kitchen and Mirth in the Hall, a collection of 12 traditional songs and ballads from Scotland and beyond.
Delivered in his inimitable style with just his spare guitar picking as accompaniment, he reaches down the centuries to unpack these songs anew, finding a set of eternal melodies – and with them, an unsettling number of surreal images that parallel the madness of our modern times.
Managing to be both traditional and contemporary at the same time, Alasdair has released several critically-acclaimed albums via Drag City Records over the past 2 decades. They have alternated between collections of his own idiosyncratic and evocative compositions, and fresh interpretations of traditional songs and ballads. Although a keen collaborator, Alasdair will be touring entirely solo, presenting material from the new album as well as from his extensive back catalogue in an intimate, stripped-down setting.

Tickets to this intimate event are extremely limited and can be purchased for £20 from Medina Bookshop in Cowes or from their website. The venue has no bar so attendees are asked to bring their own refreshments. The concert starts at 19:30.
