Brading’s second Scarecrow Festival, which this year incorporates the town’s Isle of Wight Day celebrations, is to take place between 22nd-30th September.
For 2017 extra events are being held throughout the festival period so not only can you go and find the variety of scarecrows dotted around Brading, but also take part in other fun activities.
Islanders and visitors alike are being invited to visit Brading to see the amazing creations that the residents of Brading have made.
Alongside all the scarecrows other events for your entertainment include:
Friday 22nd September
• The start of the Brading Festival – not only will the scarecrows be out for judging, but the Brading Art Group will be holding an Art Exhibition in St Mary’s Church which will run until Sunday.
Saturday 23rd September – 12:00 until 16:00
• Brading Ladies have kindly offered to host a Scarecrow Garden Party, including lunch or afternoon tea to be held at Morton Manor. Entry is £8 adults, £4 children over 2yrs which is inclusive of refreshments, admission to the gardens and a garden scarecrow hunt. Booking is advisable – ring 01983 408108. There will be a book stall and some Preloved items. This event is being supported by Jan Gibson, Tesco’s Community Champion.
Sunday 24th September
• The Scarecrow Story Walk is to be held at Beech Grove Park (situated off The Mall). This event is for children. The story has been written especially for the occasion and narrated by Stephanie Artress. Children are invited to help find the lost medal. £1 per child, 3yrs and over. To include a reward. Booking is advisable – 01983 408108.
• Family treasure hunt around the town, with a prize for the first to solve all the clues. Forms for this competition are available from the Rectory Mansion Vintage Tea Rooms, Quay Lane. There will be a small charge (to cover printing costs), Please return your completed forms to the Tearooms and place in the box provided. You must include all your contact details to be able to win a prize. ‘Find the Scarecrow Maps’ will also be available from the Vintage Tea Rooms, the same applies for submitting your entries as for the Treasure Hunt. Just pop them back during opening hours to be entered into the competition.
