The organisers of Sandown Carnival’s New Years Day Celebrations have taken the hard decision to cancel this winter’s event.
Sandown Carnival made the decision in 2019 to move their 5th November fireworks display to the 1st January due to the poor weather. This, due to becoming such a big hit, has now become an annual event.
However, due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic, it is not possible or safe to hold a large public gathering in the near future.
A spokesperson for Sandown Carnival Association has said:
“We had hoped that the virus would have subsided allowing this event to go ahead but after the new government restrictions and rising cases on the Island, it has become clear that we cannot hold an event of this sort whilst keeping our volunteers or the thousands of spectators safe.
“With continued uncertainty ahead we wish you all a safe, happy & healthy winter and we will keep everything crossed in the hope that we can again bring you all our much loved and attended events in 2021
