Drivers who lovingly cleaned and polished their cars over the scorching Bank Holiday weekend will be feeling deflated this morning after ‘dirty rain’ swept across the Isle of Wight overnight.
Saharan dust mixed in with rain showers has left cars and windows filthy just days after a record-breaking 27c Easter weekend.
Jamie Russell, Chief Forecaster at IW Met Service, explains whats happened:
“Recent unsettled weather over North Africa has sucked large amounts of Saharan dust into the atmosphere and has then drifted northwards towards Western Europe and the UK in a strong airflow from the South.
“As this dust mixed with the clouds it has fallen with the rain producing what we may call ‘dirty rain’.”
