Hovertravel say that at no point was safety compromised when one of it’s brand new hovercraft experienced a technical problem on Ryde Sands this morning (Tuesday).
At just before 08:00 the cross-Solent operator’s Solent Flyer craft experienced issues coming in to land at Ryde whilst conveying passengers from Southsea.
A spokesman for Hovertravel has said:
“At no time was there any compromise to the safety of the passengers and the crew, although the service was delayed for 10 minutes. The craft has been inspected and is currently back in service.
“Hovertravel recognises the inconvenience caused by disruptions during the implementation of the new fleet and would emphasise that for the past two weeks 80 per cent of the timetable has been operated by the new craft.
“There will be no further comment on this issue until this investigation has concluded”.
Hovertravel previously announced a 1-craft service would be in operation until the end of February to allow for previous technical issues to be resolved on the 2 new craft. Although the new craft have been running on the route most days recently, the problems have evidently still not been entirely resolved.
