The chance to chat to lifeboat crewmen about their life-saving role on the Solent was tallied with the opportunity to try new watersports at an event in Cowes over the weekend.
British Marine’s ‘Fun on the Water’ weekend at Cowes Yacht Haven balanced experience with education as local businesses came together and independent lifeboat stations joined RNLI counterparts to provide a family-fun weekend. Bembridge RNLI lifeboat motored around to Cowes to join Cowes RNLI and Ryde Inshore Rescue.
Thrill-seekers were able to enjoy a free 15-minute ride on the Island’s fastest charter RIB, Lightning Rebel, courtesy of Rebel Marine. Meanwhile Bembridge Powerboat Training were offering rides on a jet ski.
On dry land there was room to explore the services on offer from local businesses such as Seasafe Systems and UKSA. There was plenty of fundraising going on too with safety information on offer from the likes of the National Coastwatch Institution and the RNLI. There was also a demonstration of man overboard retrieval.
