With a week’s break in the Hants & Dorset ARA calendar, Wightlink-sponsored Ryde Rowing Club took the opportunity to formally name their new Coastal Four and a new Coastal Single Scull on Saturday (13th July).

The Four was christened ‘Julie’ by Julie Bottrell, a major contributor towards the cost of the boat. The rowing boat has a number of new design features and is believed to be the lightest Coastal Four ever produced. The boat was built on the Isle of Wight by AB Composites of Cowes and has already been launched and raced successfully having won the Men’s Senior Fours at the recent Poole Regatta.

The club also named a new Coastal Single Scull, ‘Carole Linda’ after the club’s long-serving Club Secretary, Carole Hewision. Carole, who retired from the role this year, was unfortunately not able to attend the naming ceremony. The Club President, Peter Allsopp, named the boat on her behalf.

Around 60 members and guests were present at the ceremony, including a strong contingent from Shanklin Rowing Club. A BBQ at the clubhouse was enjoyed afterwards.
