14 Ryde Harriers and supporters ventured to Lakeside North Harbour Portsmouth to take part in Victory 5 miles, the last race of 2024.
This race is always competitive, with lots of runners taking advantage of this flat and fast course, although there are a number of twists and turns, which makes the route a bit technical when vying for limited space on the road.
Race day conditions were not ideal, with rain right up to the start time, resulting in the course being littered with puddles, which made the first part of the race even more congested, as runners tried to avoid the deeper puddles, by the second lap runners were resigned to just running through them.
Unfortunately, the wet conditions caused Chris Newnham to slip and fall just before half way, where he was in the top 20 at the time, he retired from the race with just a couple of scraps.
Despite Chris not finishing, the strength of the men’s team was such that Ryde Harriers still tock 3rd, with Simon becoming the 3rd man in the team.
The lady’s team fielded some strong runners, with Carly Scoble first over the line coming in as 11th Lady, followed not long after by Becci Wilkinson completing her first ever race.
