9 Ryde Harriers braved an exceptionally early start to travel across to the mainland for this Sunday’s Hayling 10. Part of the Hampshire Road Race League, the course offered a fast and flat 10-mile loop which took in both puddles and pebbles with scenic stretches around Langstone Harbour and along Hayling seafront. Recent rain held off for the day, and the sunshine raised the Harriers’ spirits, with the whole team turning in strong performances despite blustery headwinds. The 1st Harrier in was Wayne Matthews, 7th in his age category, with an impressive gun time of 1:03:56. The 1st female Harrier was Jodie Wilmott, who completed the course in a speedy 1:19:59. James Darling and Jackie May both recorded new 10-mile personal bests, and the whole team made it back to the midday ferry with their smiles and enthusiasm intact. The next HRRL event on the Harriers’ calendar will be the Gosport Half Marathon on Sunday 19th November.
