Island rowers travelled to Nottingham last weekend to represent the Wessex region at the Junior Inter regional regatta. Shanklin’s Louis Sheasby and Carter Horrix won gold in the boys J16 double sculls, for the 3rd successive year, after winning both the J14 and J15 events in the last 2 years. The crew finished second in the 1k time trial but secured victory and the top spot on the podium, winning the final, run side by side over 1500m, by 1 length. The crew led from the start and maintained their lead throughout the race. Charlie Watts of Ryde contested the boys J15 single sculls racing at this level for the 1st time and finished in a creditable 5th spot in his final. Shanklin’s J14 girls double scull of Ella Haydon and Layla Katirewa also finished in 5th spot in their final as did the quad of Izzy Bounds, Layla Katirewa, Connie Batley-Smith, Rose Collier and Esme Walters (cox).
