Work is now underway on a major scheme to reconstruct and resurface Harding Road in Oakfield, Ryde.
Harding Road requires a full reconstruction as the foundations are currently substandard and this has led to the surface becoming broken and uneven. Island Roads is keen to complete the improvement work as part of the 2016 work programme as the road would deteriorate further if left untreated over another winter.
Under the forthcoming scheme, the road will be dug out and new foundations laid ahead of the resurfacing. The nature of the required work will mean that it will take 4 weeks to complete the reconstruction phase followed by 2 days of resurfacing. The reconstruction element is due to begin today (Thursday 17th November). Work will take place between the hours of 06:00 and 18:00 (there will be no work at weekends) but there will be a full road 24-hour closure in place for the duration of the work. Access will be maintained to Slade Road.
Project Manager Derek Benfield has said:
“Residents will be well aware of the poor condition of Harding Road and this work is designed not only to deliver a much improved road surface it will also address the underlying issues that have created the problems in the first place.
“The project is designed to provide a long-term solution so while there will inevitably be some disruption to residents during work itself the scheme will bring about lasting benefits”.
Mr Benfield said the project would commence on the completion of a similar reconstruction scheme at Prince’s Road, Freshwater. He continued:
“We would like to thank the community in and around Prince’s Road for their co-operation during the work there.
It should be noted that the programme is subject to change, particularly as we enter the winter season.
