Red Funnel has announced the appointment of Leanna Lakes as its new Operations Director with immediate effect.
Leanna is a Master Mariner with over 20 years’ experience in the industry at both a national and international level. She joins Red Funnel from Condor Ferries where she held the position of Head of Safety & Compliance for the last 3 years, working closely to drive cultural improvement and bring practical solutions to reduce operational risk.
As a member of the Chamber of Shipping’s task force for bridge team management, and as a seafarer herself, Leanna is committed to serving the British shipping industry and championing the maritime industry as a professional career choice for all. Her appointment will attain executive board gender equality for Red Funnel Group as she joins CEO, Fran Collins and HR Director, Debbie Reed to make up a 50% female executive board of directors.
Fran Collins, CEO of Red Funnel Ferries commented:
“We are delighted to welcome Leanna as Operations Director to Red Funnel. Leanna brings a wealth of experience with a proven track record for building strong teams and improving standards, and I am delighted that we will benefit from her industry expertise.”
“As an unintended consequence of Leanna’s appointment, I am also very proud that Red Funnel Group will achieve gender equality on its executive board. This is fantastic news for both Red Funnel and aspiring female seafarers in what is historically a male-dominated industry.”

So will we get better reliable service now ?
No, just new curtains, new seat cushions, and bloo loo in the pans.
Congratulations Leanna on your new position all the people on the Isle of Wight ask is you put in place a decent service for the hard working fee paying public.
At the moment your red jet service is shambolic and all for the price of £280 a month. Disgraceful !! It will be interesting to see if you can make a difference? We will all watch with interest..
Red Funnel were the best performing ferry company with the highest standards.
Now they have achieved their social engineering project of gender equality on the board – which has clearly been the focus and top priority above everything else.
In the meantime the service has degraded to shambolic levels, court cases, no operation in fog, horrendous on time performance, passenger satisfaction at an all time low, staff morale at an all time low – but never mind, the genders of the board members are equal, that is a relief.
What is more important Red Funnel – appealing to the PC brigade and worrying about which gender your employees are, or getting the best talent, irrespective of gender.
Red Funnel performance so far, has shown that a “hell bent” focus on gender of the board etc, has resulted in mediocrity of service for the customer – another example of a failed social project over operational effectiveness.
RF comment As an unintended consequence of Leanna’s appointment, I am also very proud that Red Funnel Group will achieve gender equality on its executive board – yeh right, unintended – please, we are not stupid.
Will still be unreliable. The only solution is a fixed link, so donate to the study https://solentfreedomtunnel.co.uk/the-sft-viability-study-by-arup/
In four years, feeney and his tunnel friends have raise £30k – they are £100k short of the amount needed by arup to do the study.
Four years and no where near the amount needed – hardly a ringing endorsement of support by islanders is it Ken.
