Bus passengers on the Isle of Wight now have access to ‘real time’ travel information and journey planning – thanks to Southern Vectis.
The operator is making the service available online to celebrate the launch of its new website.
The team is marking Responsible Business Week by talking to customers travelling on its services about all the new site has to offer.
Richard Tyldsley, General Manager at Southern Vectis, says:
“We are excited to be providing those travelling with us across the region with quick and easy access to live bus timetables at the tap of a button or the touch of a smartphone.
“Our team is keen to show passengers how to navigate the site on their smartphones and tablets. So, they will be out-and-about at Newport and Ryde bus stations, and along our routes – between 3pm and 5pm on Wednesday 1 May – to demonstrate”.
Richard continues:
“There is great demand for up-to-the-minute ‘real time’ travel information, and we want to make it easier than ever for our customers to plan their journeys with us.
“A link to our ‘live departure times’ can be found on the Southern Vectis website homepage. All users have to do is type in their stop name or choose their stop from an interactive map.
“The information refreshes every 30 seconds – so people can leave it on their screen to view the bus approaching them. For those who use the same stop regularly you can even mark it as a favourite, so you don’ t have to search each time”.
Real time is a system designed to track a bus along its route – showing when it is due to reach each stop. In the event a bus cannot be viewed, due to poor GPRS signal, the display will revert to the bus’ scheduled time.
The new journey planner is another great feature that will assist thee thousands of tourists to come to the Island each year. Southern Vectis is keen for island visitors to travel in a sustainable way and this new feature will help with those unfamiliar with the island.
Richard adds:
“We hope people enjoy using this new facility and meeting some of our team on Wednesday – and that they find it useful. We’ve listened to the views of those who use our bus services here, and ‘real time’ along with journey planning is certainly one of the most popular requests.”
