Young people’s charity Challenge & Adventure are once again holding their annual duck race at Shide footpath, Newport on Easter Saturday (20th April).
At 12 noon, some 1,000 ducks will be ready to float down river in a competitive but fun race. It takes around 20 minutes for the ducks to go from some deep water to fast running shallow water.
A duck race may sound easy enough but it is quite a complicated process and involves 2 volunteers in full waterproof gear moving with the ducks to make sure they don’t become stuck on the river banks.
A total of 1,000 numbered ducks are being sold to raise funds for Challenge & Adventure. The ducks can be bought at Arreton Barns, The Dairyman’s Daughter, The Bargeman’s Rest in Newport, The Steamer Inn at Shanklin or Jewsons in Sandown. You can also buy online at https://www.challengeadventure.org.uk/events/event/duck-race/. Alternatively, call 01983 527026.
Ducks are £1 each and all money raised goes to Challenge & Adventure. The winning duck will win £50 with many other prizes up for grabs.
The event is made possible thanks to the use of a private bridge by Mr & Mrs Walding.
