If you’re on the lookout for something completely different, pop down to 1 of 2 Island sailing clubs that are hosting ‘Push The Boat Out’ events next month.
Push the Boat Out 2018 is a great scheme run by the Royal Yachting Association at hundreds of clubs around the country. Each club will be holding a special day when they open up their doors to welcome families and individuals of all abilities to come and experience the thrill of an outing on the water.
On the Island, Brading Haven Yacht Club are welcoming visitors on Saturday 12th May (14:00-18:00) and UKSA are doing the same on Saturday 26th May (09:00-16:00).
Each Push The Boat Out event will provide all the equipment you need, just bring a change of clothes, sneakers and a towel. Sessions are a minimum of half an hour and can be longer, so ask your chosen club for full details. Clubs will have refreshments available.
Susie Moore RYA Regional Development Officer for the south region, said:
“So many people still don’t realise how easy it can be to get into sailing and windsurfing, and that you don’t even need to own a boat or board as clubs and centres have ones you can borrow or hire.
“Once you’ve learned the ropes, you can sail on your own or with your partner, friends or kids in dinghies or big boats, inland or on the coast. And after you’ve given your mind and body an on-the-water workout, nothing beats having a drink by the water on warm summer evenings.”
Last year a whopping 31,000 people ‘pushed the boat out’ at over 500 sailing and windsurfing taster sessions throughout the UK.
