A Pro-Brexit campaign group took their message to Newport at the weekend.
‘Island For Brexit’ supporters campaigned alongside Brexit Party activists in Newport on Saturday. The Brexit Party mobilised local groups across the country to distribute the second edition of their regular newspaper, The Brexiteer.
Several hundred copies of the newspaper were handed out to Islanders, with many thousands ready to be delivered over the summer.
Roadshow organiser Christopher Barker of Island for Brexit said:
“We had a typical response, with the majority in full support and a few who voiced their opposition. People are keenly aware that if Boris doesn’t now deliver the clean-break Brexit the Island so strongly voted for, there’ll be trouble at the ballot box.
“But they also know that it’s our transport links and lack of investment in the Island that push up our costs, make it harder to do business on the island, and deter industry from investing. And it turns out that The Brexit Party is now the only party that can deliver that investment that the Isle of Wight so sorely needs and deserves, through its ‘Invest In The Rest’ programme. The Tories just can’t and won’t, for the same reasons as they haven’t before – and that’s the case no matter who is their local MP or national PM.”
Island For Brexit and the Brexit Party will be continuing to maintain a strong presence on the Island over the next few weeks.
As an island resident I do not share the views of the brexiteers or their party and therefore they do not represent me and, I am sure, a fair number of other Island residents feel the same way.
As an island resident I just want out of the corrupt EU and I am sure many other Island residents feel the same way.
It amuses me that a large majority of the numpties that STILL think Brexit is a great idea, point to the EU as undemocratic (which it isn’t) whilst embracing the WTO (which has no elections).
Never mind, now we’ve got Boris. Lots of mindless, vacuous optimism. Never mind the detail. Never mind the facts. Never mind the stark warnings of all the experts, economists and large employers. A no deal Brexit (which was never mentioned during the referendum), will solve everything, eh?

The referendum question was to leave the eu or not – there was no mention of having a deal either. So either option was on the table in a “leave” win result – which was the case.

Had this country voted to remain, we would be using the EURO, be part of the expected european armed forces, be expected to accept unfettered immigration, give up the financial rebate we receive, give up control over our financial independence, as the european central bank would decide monetary policy, not the bank of england.
There are countries all over this planet that function successfully outside the european union, it is not a problem for them dealing with other countries and trading with them.
Trade between the uk and the continent has been going on long before jumped up politicians got in the way and will continue to do so, regardless of what mp’s say. There will be no cessation of any trading between uk and eu businesses, otherwise the black market will simply flourish.
The uk and the EU do not need interfering politicians to enable trade to take place between each other.
As an exercise in mass psychology Brexit was a resounding success. The Conservative-English Nationalist faction in the UK cynically calculated, as many right-wing factions have done before, that massaging people’s anxieties about where we are heading in a changing world, xenophobia stoked by fears of terrorism and cultural differences and a deep-rooted tribal loyalism can be harnessed to obtain perverse results at the polls. Once the bridgehead has formed with an underwhelming majority of 3.8% then further debate must be closed down as in a putsch. Apparently the result is immutable and binding for all time and the 48% who voted to Remain are now ’Traitors’.

Had the vote gone the other way, you would have been shouting from the rooftops about how the country had spoken, the democratic process had been followed and there would be no reruns and no further discussion about the subject and the result would stand forever. The democratic process had been followed, leave won. Stop treating people like idiots – they voted the way they felt and not because of what someone else said. You made a choice to remain – you clearly listened to the remain propaganda, so looking down your nose at leave voters, is somewhat hypocritical and so typical of someone who didn’t get their own way.

This is a democracy where majority rules – the leave vote won – respect the result and stop whining about it. You can always
move to france or another EU country if you wish to continue being part of a biased club of self centred dictators.
Many assumptions about me. For starters, if remain had won, I would not wish to stop all further discourse on the subject, as many leavers are trying to do.
Secondly, it is most certainly not “my precious EU”. My worries concern this country, my children’s future and protecting everything I’ve worked hard for.
For what it’s worth. I think that the only way out of this mess is to leave with no deal.
Only then will the shysters and chancers responsible for the economic storm that follows will be brought to book.
Because if you think a no deal will alleviate the uncertainty and allow the United Kingdom (united for now) to move on, you’re wrong. It’ll be just the start.
What is patently obvious to anyone with even the faintest clue about economics is that cutting ties with by far your biggest trading partner in a way that causes disruption and the application of tariffs and border checks is going to come at an economic cost.
We need a deal more than the EU does too so the notion that if we just leave then they will come running to us cap in hand is pure fantasy.
Still the millionaires and hedge funders who will benefit will be okay. Don’t need to look very fare to see who they are.

I do not think you even understand what no deal actually means. You do realise that this is all political blustering by politicians
who are not really that relevant to day to day life. They are all making this as difficult as possible to justify their own existence and to ensure that they can keep their noses wedged in the money trough as long as possible.
you do not need politicians of any country to trade goods and services. you need a phone, a supplier, a method of payment and transport. If you want something from a different geographical location on this planet, you can get it, one way or the other, no matter what some politician says.
There has been a continual transfer of goods and services between this land mass and the other one, the other side of the channel, for over two thousand years and it will continue to be the case, regardless of what interfering busy bodies calling themselves politicians do or what they like to call the collection of countries on the continent.
The reality will be that all mep’s will lose their jobs, the mp’s in london will actually have to be capable of running the administrative affairs of the uk, rather than sitting back and letting the european parliament do the talking and as for deals or no deals, do you know how long it will actually take to slowly but surely re-write the statutes to say UK instead of EU. Decades, is how long that will take.
There are thousands upon thousands of tiny agreements and rules, that will be broken and remade, most probably in the exact same way as they are now, however, will simply state uk laws and not EU legislation.
You will still have your home and what you worked for and your childrens future will be what they make of it.

this is a democratic country, the alternative is a dictatorship – we leave as per the vote result from the peoples referendum or this country is no longer democratic.
