Post Office services have been restored in the centre of Newport today (Wednesday) after a 2-year absence. Newport’s new Post Office is now located at Central Convenience Store, on the High Street. There are 2 Post Office counters alongside the retail counter of the store. The return of the Post Office was greeted by a small crowd of town residents, laden with Christmas posting items. The last time it was possible to post letters and buy stamps from a Post Office in the centre of the Island’s County Town was in 2021, when it was located in the former Co-op in South Street. For the past 2 years, it has only been possible for Newport residents to head to the suburbs for postal services – either in Pan Estate or in Carisbrooke. Store manager Justin Cook has said:
“There’s been a massive interest. Newport High Street has desperately needed a Post Office. “We hope it’s going to be a great success. There has been incredible interest from the general public. “The Post Office is going to be busy all day long.”
This will provide 111 hours of Post Office service a week for the convenience of customers.
Graham Brander, Post Office Network Provision Manager, has said:
“We are delighted to have restored a Post Office to Newport as we know how important a Post Office is to a community. The branch’s opening hours will make it very convenient for customers to visit.”
