All Wessex League are games subject to pitch inspections this Saturday (2nd March). UPDATE (09:00): Newport IW v Andover Town is OFF In the only Wessex League fixture to be played on the Isle of Wight, 16th-placed Newport will hope to bounce back from their midweek defeat to New Milton when they face 3rd-from-bottom Andover Town. The pitch inspection at Beatrice Avenue is at 09:00.
UPDATE: (09:30) Cove v East Cowes Vics is OFF Also in Wessex Division 1, East Cowes Vics – who currently occupy 5th spot – travel to North Hampshire to take on the side immediately below: Cove. Vics have been in good form of late having gone 6 games unbeaten since the start of January when they lost to Verwood Town in Dorset. The East Cowes side’s squad will be bolstered by new signing: attacking midfielder Jake Wright. Opponents Cove have been in poor form over their last 2 games, conceding 9 goals in losses against Verwood Town and Hamworthy Recreation. Kick off is at the earlier time of 14:30. However, the game is now thought unlikely to go ahead.
UPDATE (09:00): Laverstock & Ford v Cowes Sports is OFF In the Wessex Premier, 7th-placed Cowes Sports travel to Wiltshire to face another side challenging for a playoff place: Laverstock & Ford. The Yachtsmen dropped out of the playoff places on Tuesday following a poor performance at Bournemouth Poppies in which goalkeeper Ed Hatt and forward Caleb Neale were both red carded. However, Cowes remain just 1 point below 5th-placed Brockenhurst with a game in hand. Manager Max Draper has said of the game:
It’s a very difficult place to travel to, and we are still without a few through injury and unavailability. Lavvy are right up there on their day and are a force at home, so we will have to be at it to get a result. This is where we need to just knuckle down and stick it out. At this time of year, in this league, anyone can beat anyone. There is always something to play for so we stick together, refocus and get ready for the final stages of the season.
The pitch inspection at Laverstock will be at 09:00. Wessex Premier table below:
