Newport travelled to Andover Town knowing that only a win could keep their title challenge and automatic promotion alive.
The Port were without their usual front 3: Joe Butcher, Jordan Browne and Joe Craig. Also missing were influential midfielders Liam Triggs and Jacob Reynolds and defender Scott Barron.
The Port began brightly with an early goal from leading scorer Connor Kelly – his 23rd in the season to date (0-1).
Ji Nash and Josh Younie then had opportunities to extend the County Town club’s lead. Nash provided Port with a 2-goal advantage by poking in a ball at the far post (0-2).
Further pressure from Port saw Nash having a shot well held by Andover keeper Don McCarthy then shooting into the side netting.

The Bluebirds returned from the half time break determined to claw back the 2-goal deficit. First, the home side hit the upright twice in quick succession. Then, Ben Emans pulled a goal back for Andover (1-2).

Now, it was Port’s turn to return to the ascendency. Connor Kelly put the ball wide in a 1-on-1 scoring opportunity. Ji Nash had a goal attempt blocked before bagging his brace by sliding the ball under keeper McCarthy (1-3)
Aaron Burford then added a 4th goal for the Port with a powerful strike after having been set up by Connor Kelly (1-4).
