Police on the Isle of Wight have launched an investigation following the discovery of what appears to be part of a human skull at St Helen’s Beach.
The unusual find prompted a call to Hampshire Constabulary on Sunday lunchtime, who in turn took the piece of bone away.
Forensic examinations will now take place to try to establish how old the piece of bone is and if it is indeed human. It will also be swabbed for any DNA.
It’s thought that the apparent skull fragment could be from the historic burial ground nearby, which surrounds the old church.
