Police on the Isle of Wight are investigating an episode of suspected door stop crime in Brading, in which local residents were asked to part with their cash.
At around 23:10 last night (Sunday), a man is alleged to have visited a number of properties in the town asking for money so that he could put fuel in his car to get home.
According to those approached, there was no sign of a car and other aspects of the incident are said to have aroused suspicions.
Hampshire Constabulary are understood to have taken a number of calls about this man, who is described as approximately 30-40 years old, wearing a baseball cap and an anorak. He was accompanied by a dog.
