The former bus depot in the heart of Ventnor town could be demolished and replaced with 2 shops and 10 flats.
A planning application has been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council to seek permission to demolish the depot building and associated outbuildings on Pier Street.
It is proposed that a 3-storey building will be constructed on the site, consisting of 2 retail units on the ground floor with 10x 2-bedroom flats over. There would be parking for 6 cars to the rear.
The bus depot, owned and operated at the time by Southern Vectis, closed in 2006 and has stood empty for the past 14 years.
Planning permission to transform the site was previously granted back in 2007 with an extension to that permission sought in 2010, however, 10 years later and work is yet to begin.

More shops we cant fill the empty shops we already got in ventnor and it will high price rental for the flats as well
Ten double bedroom flats with only six parking spaces plus two retail units. Of course it will be given permission.
Council gain ten new council tax fees, two business tax fees, plus half a dozen or more extra cars that can’t fit into the allocated parking, thus having to pay to park.

Agree I live in ventnor and we really don’t need the extra cars trying to park it’s a complete nightmare already. At least give every flat a parking space! What a stupid idea. Hope this gets refused in its current format but knowing our inept council they’ll pass it cos it won’t affect them other than make them more money.

Why all the negativity about replacing an eyesore with an attractive new building? So what if the new flats are expensive? The more flats there are in town, the less pressure there is to raise rents. Six parking spaces for ten flats seems reasonable to me. Not everybody owns or wants a car. Who needs it in a town with ample local amenities and excellent bus service?
And no parking?
This was approved in 2010 so is sure to get approved – don’t worry though as nothing that get approved in Ventnor ever actually happens !
It used to be the Southern Vectis bus garage. Before that it was Nash’s Luxury Tours coach garage until1956. It seems like a long time ago now when it was full of Nash’s cream and green coaches with their smart uniformed drivers. Ah well times move on don’t they.

Ventnor is always short of homes to live. I know many families looking for 2 bed homes.
Not everyone drives. So there many not be a problem. Yes, it’s difficult to park in Ventnor but that’s because people come to the town.
Let’s have some positivity.
No it’s because there is no parking mostly double yellows especially in summer months with the restricted parking and nobody will use car parks cos of the increasing charges. Visitors park in residential roads and the council will not allow residents parking permits in any of the roads cos we’ve tried. And if the town council get their way over the town centre upgrade we’ll lose even more. I’m not against developing the site just consider the parking issues.
