The Pier2Pier between Sandown and Shanklin has been postponed due to the forecasted windy weather set to hit the Island this weekend.
Set to be held this Saturday (22nd July) organisers from the Isle of Wight Marlins Swimming Club have been forced to postpone the event due to safety concerns.
Wind gusts are expected to reach as much as 50mph this weekend. The first weekend of the Summer holidays.
Swimmers will now tackle a 1.8-mile course from Sandown Pier to Shanklin Rowing Club on Saturday 5th August at 15:00.
All of the 200 places have now been taken, made up of 84 Islanders and 116 Mainlanders. Trophies will also be awarded for various swim-stroke and age categories with a commemorative keepsake presented to each winning swimmer.
Last weekend, several events got cancelled as a result of high winds including Isle of Wight, Warrior Festival, Lionheart Christian Festival and the first instalment of the 2023 Sunset Sessions at Blackgang Chine.
