20 brand new beach huts are being built at Colwell Bay, just in time for the 2017 summer season.
Leases for the 2.4m by 1.8m huts are now available and will be snapped up really quickly.
Councillor Shirley Smart, executive member for planning, tourism, recreation and culture, said:
“I am delighted with these beach huts – they look wonderful and they will undoubtedly be snapped up really quickly, as they are in such a beautiful, calm and peaceful spot at Colwell Bay; a fabulous family beach.”
There are around 238 beach huts across the Island, which are currently owned privately. This is the first time that the Isle of Wight Council has provided beach huts for lease.
The 20 new Colwell beach huts will be painted in bold primary colours, providing a vibrant, colourful addition to the bay’s vista.
Councillor Smart added:
“Island beach huts are a part of our beach life, for summer and throughout the year. They are highly sought after and we expect the leases to sell very quickly – I’m sure we’ll have waiting lists before long!”
The leases are available now and will commence once the beach huts are in place, from Spring 2017. 10-year leases are available for sale at £10,000, which can be paid on an annual basis.
