VIDEO: Everyone is welcome at the annual Pickle Wars competition, which takes place in Gurnard tomorrow (Sunday).
From it’s lowly beginnings of just a couple of Sunday lunchtime drinkers trying to outdo each other with their onions to last years competition with over 50 entries, Pickle Wars has been an outstanding success and has had the honour of raising over £50,000 for The Children’s Liver Disease Foundation. Now in it’s 15th year, the event is one not to be missed and ranks up there with Cowes Week on the social calendar.
The day itself is a family friendly fun day and kicks off at 12 noon on Sunday 31st January with everyone able to take part in the tasting, which involves the public trying onions and marking down the scores for each. All the scores are then collated to find out who the new Pickle King or Queen will be. The prize being a half of lager and your name being added to the Pickle Wars shield.
After the tasting, a raffle is held with over 60 raffle prizes ranging from gift vouchers and bottles of spirits to brewery trips and beer fridges. Tickets are priced at just £1 per strip. An auction is also due to be held.
Pickle Wars is being held at The Woodvale Hotel situated on the corner of Woodvale Road and Princes Esplanade in Gurnard. The hotel is a 5 minute car drive along the seafront from Cowes.
