The Phoenix Choir, under the direction of Robin Burnett, are making a welcome return to St John’s Church in Newport for another enjoyable evening of music appealing to all ages and tastes. The event starts at 19:30 on Saturday (2nd July).
The choir have performed at St. John’s for previous fundraising on behalf of many charitable causes.
On this occasion the proceeds will support the “2020Vision” at St John’s itself, an exciting project which aims to provide improved Community facilities. St. John’s hall is now at the end of its practical life and the vision is to provide an enhanced site for the community which will see the hall replaced with a more flexible building, fully integrated with the Church building. The church building, which is used for many musical events due to its splendid acoustics, will also be refreshed.
The choir will be singing their usual wide ranging repertoire and the programme will include ‘Memory’ from ‘Cats’, Cilla Black’s ‘You’re My World’, ‘Anthem’ from ‘Chess’, the title song and ‘Music Of The Night’ from ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ and Cesar Franck’s ‘Panis Angelicus’. Songs associated with Pavarotti and Elvis Presley will also feature.
Admission is free but there will be a retiring collection. Refreshments will be available.
